Description: This dramatic oil on canvas depicting a hose cart and steam pumper racing down a street was made by Henry Snyder, a Union volunteer fireman in Winchster, Virginia. The Union Fire Company was celebrated for having a life-size fireman weather vane known as "Old Jake" atop their firehouse. Inscribed verso by Henry Snyder, Union Vol. Circa 1850-1860
